Read a great article today from the Wall Street Journal on patio furniture being used inside. With the modern stylish designs, comfortable cushions, and excellent materials it is not hard to believe that people are finally catching on to the trend that some patio furniture can be used as ‘regular’ furniture inside the house. Many high-end companies today market just that… furniture that is ideal for both indoors and out.

Winterizing your outdoor patio

The time of year has arrived again for winterizing your outdoor living space. Start preparing for winter before the snow, ice and cold set in. Being ready and organized can help make an easier transition to (next year’s) Spring. Knowing that the cold weather is headed our way in the next few weeks makes for heavy sigh… but you can still enjoy the backyard in the warm, cozy surroundings of an outdoor fire or patio heater!

Here is a checklist (adapted from Houzz) on fall chores that can get your outdoor space prepped and ready for winter.

1. Clean and store patio furniture.
2. Clean patio cushions.
3. Clean off the grill of your bbq.
4. Store garden tools and accessories.
5. Trim back bushes and clean up the garden.
6. Rake leaves and tidy up yard.
7. Clean off hammocks and swings and store.
8. Clean and store umbrellas.
9. Power wash your patio.
10. Continue to enjoy your patio even in cooler temperatures by using the bbq, getting a patio heater or sitting around an outdoor fire!

Newest arrival in BonaVista family

The BonaVista family extended by one over the weekend with the arrival of a sweet baby girl for Melissa & Darren Silk. Baby number 4 arrived in the comfort of her own home with a safe and speedy delivery. Isabelle Grace was born on October 2 at 11:45am, 7lbs, 48cm long – a cute perfect little present for her brother and sisters. Both mom and baby are doing very well! Congratulations to Melissa, Darren and the whole Brown/Silk family. We look forward to watching this brand new little BonaVista baby grow.

Back-to-school blues

I find it terribly hard to believe that I have a little one starting school for the first time this year. I have mixed feelings on how this is all going to play out. I am proud and excited for her, but also worried and nervous. What if she does not make friends? What if she needs help and is afraid to ask? What is she is too shy? What if she is hungry? Tired? Scared? It should be no different than daycare for the past 4 years… but for some reason it feels like a whole new ball game. I have to say that today is a big day in our household and I’m feeling a little blue. We turned the temperature down in our pool, we lowered the patio umbrella… the patio cusions are all put away. Although we can still use our backyard for a few more weeks… for the first time, September marks a new beginning in our house… back-to-school feels like the end of summer… and that has me feeling the ‘back-to-school’ blues.

Just wanted to wish all the little ones starting school for the first time this year ‘good luck’ and have fun! We have 3 little BonaVista-ites – Noah, Katie and Emlyn – embarking on there first day of school this week. Their education begins so that one day they too can run this company!
